Veggie Catalogs!

Starting the day after Christmas our mailbox is filled with the first signs of spring - the 2014 seed catalogs start to arrive!

The best eye-candy so far is the cover of Burpee which this year shows the most magnificent giant tomato.

After all my vegetable garden's raison d'être are the perfectly ripe and meaty beefsteak tomatoes. My mouth is watering just thinking about that flavor of summer! Time to start planning the garden!

Welcome to the Smith St Farm

What is Smith St Farm? 

Our small house with its small yard (5,500 sq feet) is on Smith St. The street was subdivided into a neighborhood in 1906 and named after Smith Farm which was once here.

And while today this is a suburban neighborhood of homes built between 1900 and 1950, at my house we keep small but productive vegetable and herb gardens going strong.

Who are we?

We are 2 sisters who surprisingly have shared a house for the last 19 years. We both have demanding professional jobs. Mary is a Registered Nurse and I'm a product manager at an internet company.We find joy in gardening, cooking, crafting, hiking and travel.
